JANINE & SYLVAN

San Francisco, CA

After meeting while working as engineers at sea, Janine and Sylvan wanted a ceremony that resonated with their “opposites-attract” love story — and a ceremony that would allow for two officiants.

An excerpt from their custom written wedding ceremony:

Love is different for each of us. How we experience it, why we enjoy it, and how it affects us depends on who we are and what we appreciate in the world. I’d like to start by discussing what love means to Sylvan and Janine with quote from Herman Hesse:

‘We are sun and moon, dear friend; we are sea and land. It is not our purpose to become each other; it is to recognize each other, to learn to see the other and honor him for what he is: each the other’s opposite and complement.’

As most of you probably know, Janine and Sylvan are not the same person. Far from it, in fact. And in such an extreme juxtaposition, they also are one another’s counterparts. Alone, they are good. But together, they are on-fire, wild-horses-can’t-keep-them-away fantastic.
